Care and support for people with epilepsy

Supported Living

Supported living is a way of providing people with support as they go about living in the community. The individual is responsible for funding accommodation costs, whilst Independence Homes provides the care and support package.

Good supported living programmes give individuals as much independence as possible. They help individuals to gain or rediscover the skills they need, whilst recognising that the intermittent nature of epilepsy means there may be bad days too.

Liberty Court  [Watch Video]
Liberty Court is a brand new
development of one and two bed apartments in Purley, near Croydon, which opened in 2007.
The development is built and equipped to extremely high standards, with service users responsible for their own tenancies, and care and support provided by Independence Homes.

It’s not good for anyone to be bored, and our philosophy is geared around helping our service users to lead a full and active life.
The location of the new Liberty Court development supports this philosophy perfectly. Shops, leisure facilities, a library and churches are all extremely close by. Local bus and train services are excellent. There are colleges in Croydon and Sutton for people who wish to continue their education, and the possibility of local employment opportunities.

Service users at Liberty Court are supported by an experienced staff team providing round the clock support, helping them to live an active life in the community.

There’s been great interest in Liberty Court, but this isn’t surprising given the lack of specialist facilities for people with epilepsy available across the country. However a small number of places are still available.

April 2008

I like the whole concept of being secure in an environment where people are able to look after you with the expertise, and also having friends and being able to go out and of course Purley is quite near London so you get in and out to London whenever you want to really and also I go to college so it's quite handy to be near a local college and carry on with my studies as well.
