Overview

Many people with epilepsy have the potential to achieve great levels of independence, but still need considerable support in their everyday lives. Supported living is a way of providing people with support as they go about living in the community. It’s suitable for people who have the capacity to be responsible for their own housing tenancy, and thus be responsible for their own accommodation, but who need support, often to quite intense levels, in everyday life.

Our supported living programmes give our service users as much independence as possible, but within a safe environment. They help individuals to gain or rediscover the skills they need, whilst recognising that the intermittent nature of epilepsy means there may be bad days too. Many of our supported living service users still have very complex and challenging epilepsy and many seizures, so naturally we still have extremely well trained staff providing extremely specialised care.

Providing excellent supported living programmes is sometimes a challenge. Many  people arrive with low confidence levels. We help them to re-establish their aims and to rebuild their confidence. Service users have access to our first class medical and therapy teams.

Our staff are highly trained in the care and management of epilepsy, but equally importantly they have the experience and patience to help our service users to reach their goals. Support is provided around the clock, with staff awake through the night too. Experience demonstrates that service users thrive when working with the same staff so we provide consistent staff teams wherever possible.
