A new report released by the Royal College of Physicians and the Association of British Neurologists has once again highlighted the lack of specialist services for people who have neurological conditions in the UK. Epilepsy is the most common severe neurological condition. The report, entitled local adult neurology services for the next decade, appears to recommend the need for more services like those provided by Independence Homes.
There are many ways to treat epilepsy. Doctors can prescribe one, or a combination of the many anti-epileptic medications. In some cases, the source of the epileptic activity can be so closely pinpointed through an MRI scan that brain surgery might be considered. If that’s not an option, or hasn’t worked, vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) could be another treatment.
