Our history and vision

We were founded by John and Dr Melanie MacLeod in 1997. Melanie's experience and interest in epilepsy began when she was working at Young Epilepsy in Lingfield, Surrey. She wanted to provide young people leaving education with a safe environment in the community where their epilepsy could be managed by experts. Her vision was that young people would also be encouraged and supported to fulfil their aspirations with as much independence as possible.

This ethos proved a huge success with service users, parents and care managers. Today, our service users arrive from all over the country, many have come straight from school, meaning we are able to support their transition to adult services.

Our services have been established in suburban settings so that service users can access the community with support from our highly trained staff. We focus on promoting independence and supporting people with different abilities to reach their full potential. We provide adults with epilepsy with one of the most specialised services available in the UK.

Our vision

To be the world's best epilepsy care provider and to be recognised as the best. In order to achieve our goals, we will always remember the following:

  • Exceed our service users’ expectations in all that we do
  • Take pride in our identity and responsibility for our actions
  • Always be aware that our service users’ successes are the reason we are successful
  • Work hard to maintain good relationships with all those who deal with us and build on them
  • Always remember we are a team, we need each other
  • Be professional at all times
  • Think flexibly to provide intelligent and innovative care
  • Remember achievements speak louder than words!

Reduction in seizures - survey shows promising results!

"We can't guarantee that a service user's epilepsy will improve. However we can ensure that individuals gain access to the best possible care, and that every effort is made to reduce or eliminate seizures where possible"
