Independence Homes to stage annual fun day at
London Community Cricket Association
Independence Homes, the epilepsy care specialist which has its
headquarters in Croydon, is holding its annual fun day on Saturday 30th
September, from 10am to 4.30pm, at the London Community Cricket
Association Cricket Centre, which is in Plough Lane, Wallington.
The fun day, which aims to raise awareness of epilepsy as well as raising
money for good causes, generated over £3000 in 2005. The aim is to beat
that figure this year, with the proceeds to be split between the London
Community Cricket Association itself, and Epilepsy Action, which is the
largest member led epilepsy organisation in the UK.
The day itself is organised by staff and service users at Independence
Homes. Independence Homes was formed in 1997 specifically to help people
with epilepsy and learning difficulties to fulfill their potential and
achieve their own objectives. The company provides accommodation and
support for adults living with epilepsy, other medical needs and learning
disability. Today, Independence Homes employs almost 200 staff and support
over 50 adults in both supported living programmes and community based
residential care.
Karen Walker, who is deputy development manager at Independence Homes,
said:
“We had a great day last year, and this year should be even better.
There’ll be a sponsored walk, an auction, treasure hunt, entertainment
stalls, bric-a-brac, face painting, nail painting, fancy dress, a plant
stall, the stocks and much more! Our local radio station, Radio Jackie,
will be there too. There’s also a licensed bar and a barbeque.”
